Wednesday’s child: Emely Closson

A gravestone need not have a fancy shape or intricate carvings to be memorable.

D I E D
Sept. 14, 1845
EMELY, R.
daughter of
Luther, & Eliza
Closson Aged
14 years, 4 m. 1 D.

Who knows how soon our nature dies,
Blasted by every wind that flies,
Like grass we spring and die as soon,
Or morning flowers that fade at noon.

  1. I've found some of the simpler stones have the greatest impact on me.

I've given you the Ancestor Approved Award at Fables and Endless Genealogies. I think you've received it before but I couldn't complete my list without including your blog.

  2. Thanks, Missy. After Christmas I'm gonna sit down and do the Ancestor Approved list!

I love the mixture of strong block lettering and the flowery script on this gravestone. No pictures needed!
