Wednesday’s child: Clara

CLARA
Dau. of G. &
N. LEASURE
Died
Oct. 2, 1860
Aged 1 Y’r
5 mo. 17 d’s.

Look carefully at the bottom of the marker. Before the marker sunk into its foundation, an epitaph was visible! I see Sweet little bud for—do you? I am making a Google-supported guess to finish the verse:

Sweet little bud, for
earth too fair, has gone
to heaven to blossom there.

  1. Noticed you were following my blog....thank you for reading. Just popped in to see your blog. I've always been intrigued with gravestones. I'd like to place a link to your blog on mine if you don't mind. I'll definitely be a regular to your blog.

  2. Hi Talon...thanks for stopping by --and thank you for adding me to your blog list! Your entry "Third Time's a Charm" struck a note of familiarity with me. This is my first attempt at starting a blog, but sometimes I'm more of a starter than a finisher. I may be writing a similar blog post a few years from now myself.

  3. I just found your blog, and I love the photography. I'll have to follow your example and not just photograph the gravestones, but get in close for some of the details!

  4. Thank you, Heather! Sometimes, if I study the up-close photo, I can read something at home that I couldn't figure out in the field. But maybe that's because I have more patience indoors with air conditioning than outdoors with heat and mosquitoes.
